These figures are higher than some might expect, and while the lack of improvement is somewhat disconcerting, the positive takeaway is that Americans still feel fairly free to criticize their government. This is not the case in some parts of the world. Questions about corruption are so sensitive in some countries that even if Gallup is allowed to ask them, the results may reflect residents’ reluctance to disparage their government. This is particularly true in countries where media freedom is restricted…

October 7, 2015 at 2:08 AMwell, we have one crazy party that considers ANYTHING the government does to be corruption.
(whereas most Swedes identify positively with Swedish government)
We should still fight corruption, but we should know that compared to other governments, we have very low levels of corruption, technically.
The real problem is the LEGAL "corruption" that we have allowed

October 7, 2015 at 2:28 AMSorry to be such a bummer/downer, but I do not see the tide changing in the context of power and money. However, that is less a statement on the rich and powerful, and more a statement on the apathetic nature of people in general. For example, the majority of morbidly obese people only choose to take action on their health when their very survival is in jeopardy. That is if they take any action at all. It takes something rather existential to motivate them.

October 7, 2015 at 3:09 AMThis is where we don't meet eye to eye. You suggest we work within the system to make change- I say the system in corrupt and incorrectible from the jump while working in its confines.
Thus, the US demands a blood soaked battlefield, a revolution, a systematic execution of the bourgeosie, a holocaust and nothing less.
Find them in their maze of smoke, their mystery protection, their lies and deception, extinguish their resistance and kill them without mercy. Nothing is going to change without sweet sweet genocide. Wolf Pac is a pipe dream.
Heroes make great slaves. Villains make great change. Join me and I will show you the power of the dark side.
Scientocracy. It's time.

October 7, 2015 at 5:29 AMThere should be a party devoted to the sole purpose of un corrupting Washington. You could get average people on both sides to come together for a sole purpose, while keeping other social issues completely out. Nobody could sanely say, I am against removing corruption from politics.

October 7, 2015 at 5:53 AMOk…. so which politician is going to propose that we make an amendment … or let just say a simple law getting big corporate interest/money out of politics? That would be like a hospital patient pulling the plug on their own life support. The only way I could see that happening without the 2nd Amendment is to find anti-establishment politicians who don't receive money from donors, gets through to overwhelming majority of the people so the main stream media can't shut him/her out (ref Ron Paul), and someone who is a true voice of the American people who truly wants what's best for us regardless of financial gain. Say you do find such a president, you have 2 other F*cked up branches to shut him/her down. Now finding one is a snowball's chance in hell, but enough to fill Congress, the Executive, and the Judicial Branches?… If you believe that then I will sell you some beach front property in Kansas with a great view of the Credulous Sea!

October 7, 2015 at 7:32 AMMost young people get their news from social media these days. It's only a matter of time until money won't matter enough to sway elections. That is, if my fellow millennials would actually start to vote.

October 7, 2015 at 8:13 AMI'm surprised by Sweden. Then again all their media is tightly controlled by the government which is basically run by one party with just different names so I'm not sure how much I trust those figures.

October 7, 2015 at 9:32 AMGlad on stumbled on this. A lot to learn from this distinguished diplomat who has served his country well. He speaks 4 languages but most importantly he speaks simply , straight and with gravitas and integrity. There are many in the Jewish community – secular and on the left who support his arguments as well / there are always to be found people who love truth – I believe we must quote from them often to spread proper knowledge about what is happening. Prof. Mersheimer and Walt do this to help make their case and to deflect criticisms.

October 7, 2015 at 10:19 AMperhaps their are dark forces who WANT to see NEVERENDING war. There is, of course great profit in war for weapon makers and bankers.Through Chaos in the middle east, comes order for those grabbing the oil fields. Still other powers that run the world, want to see Jews and Muslims kill each other because they hate both. Perhaps.

October 7, 2015 at 12:42 PMo The US needs to submit to the wisdom of our Founders, return to a Republic based on the Constitution & stop being the policeman of the world. Wars need to be declared by Congress in open debate. Congress and not the President should make foreign policy which includes sending aid military or otherwise abroad. The the Commander & Chief can play this role after Congress sets the stage. As the old Biblical Proverb points out, “there is safety in the council of many
